<p>This is a high effort filtering and encoding for <em>Champignon no Majo</em> and should be the best version you can get at this filesize as of right now.<br />

Additional improvements have been discovered in the encoder that helps with texture retention. Texture retention in episode 04 onwards should be even better than the compare above.  </p>
<p>For filtering, the main episode is descalable. We descale the main episode using <code>vsscale.Rescale</code>, and then we write a custom <code>akarin.Expr</code> to carefully dampen the sharpness of the descaled image. Thanks to many people in the JET server such moe teaching me the method, we fully recover the layer of 1080p texture on top of the image after descale.<br />
The OP and ED of this anime is not descalable. Instead we use a stronger <code>vsTAAmbk.TAAmbk</code> to deal with the OP, protected by a custom <code>akarin.Expr</code> taper. And we use <code>vsaa.based_aa</code> to perform aa on the ED.<br />
Also, as usual, before the aa, OP from multiple episodes are merged using <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code>.  </p>
<p>For denoise, the main episode doesn't quite need a denoise at all. Instead we only use <code>dctf.DCTFilter</code> to clean up some slightly annoying checkerboard in the source.<br />
For OP and ED, we use the typical <code>vsdenoise.mc_degrain</code> → <code>vsdenoise.bm3d</code> → <code>vsdenoise.nl_means</code> to stabilise dynamic noise.<br />

<p>The BD is very nice. There are very few cases where the WEB contain more information than BD.
We perform a MinMax merge of WEB and BD on luma in the episode. Essentially, if the BD has more information than WEB, we do nothing. If the WEB has more information than BD, we allow WED in. The WEB is decheckerboarded before joining with merge.<br />
In the OP, as usual, we perform a Lehmer merge of multiple episodes of BD. The OP merge is nice, but contains quite heavy blocking. It also demands way more bitrate than the main episode, so instead we perform an additional light <code>vsdenoise.deblock_qed</code> on the OP to reduce the blocking and control the filesize.  </p>

In addition, the post colouring antialiasing in the original production frequently failed on areas with darker background colour. This is especially common in the lineart on school uniform.<br />
During the descale, we perform an AA on doubled using <code>vsaa.based_aa</code>. This AA only applies on darker areas of the character via a character mask using <code>anime-segmentation</code> model and a luminance mask, and doesn't touch anything else. This fixes a good portion of the remaining aliasing.  </p>
<p>Noisewise, the JPBD has heavy noise. We believe it isn't artistic, so we try to remove as much as can be safely removed. However, on the other hand, some texture in this anime is extremely weak, and being weaker than the noise, they are very temporally unstable.<br />
We denoise via <code>mc_degrain</code> + <code>bm3d</code> on luma, adjusted via a character mask via <code>anime-segmentation</code> to apply much weaker denoise on background than chararcter, and we denoise via <code>mc_degrain</code> + <code>wnnm</code> on chroma.<br />

<p>The BD is lowpassed, and has a thick layer of authoring noise, which results in distortion and sometimes heavy blocking surrounding sharp character lineart. The CR WEB source has much better character lineart. On the other hand, in background, the BD and CR WEB source is about equal. In some scenes, BD has more details, while in other some scenes, CR WEB has more details.<br />
We first use <code>anime-segmentation</code> model via <code>vs-mlrt</code> to separarte the character and the background. After that, we delowpass the BD following 12-tap blackmanminlobe with <code>[1/1.250, 1/1.425]</code> <code>fh</code> and <code>[1/1.250, 1/1.375]</code> <code>fv</code>.<br />
During the delowpass, we <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code> the BD and WEB. For characters, we take the high frequency information exclusively from WEB to avoid picking up the blocking and dirty mosquito noise in the BD. For background, we add the high frequency information from both BD and manged WEB together.<br />
This anime is almost impossible to denoise using typical method. In some scenes, there are multiple layers of texture on top of each other with each layer having different motion. There are also a lot of scenes that fade to black or white.<br />
For this reason, we only use a very conservative <code>dctf.DCTFilter</code> and <code>DFTTest</code> to decheckerboard CR prior to delowpass, and we don't perform any denoise on BD.<br />
As usual, prior to denoise and delowpass, we perform Lehmer merge on the OP. But to avoid strengthening the checkerboard in WEB, and to limit the noise in BD, we only perform Lehmer merge using a ...]]></description>

<p>This is a high effort filtering and encoding for <em>Kanpekiseijo</em>.<br />

<p>The BD is lowpassed, and has a thick layer of authoring noise, which results in distortion and sometimes heavy blocking surrounding sharp character lineart. The CR WEB source has much better character lineart. On the other hand, in background, the BD and CR WEB source is about equal. In some scenes, BD has more details, while in other some scenes, CR WEB has more details.<br />
We first use <code>anime-segmentation</code> model via <code>vs-mlrt</code> to separarte the character and the background. After that, we delowpass the BD following 12-tap blackmanminlobe with <code>[1/1.250, 1/1.425]</code> <code>fh</code> and <code>[1/1.250, 1/1.375]</code> <code>fv</code>.<br />
During the delowpass, we <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code> the BD and WEB. For characters, we take the high frequency information exclusively from WEB to avoid picking up the blocking and dirty mosquito noise in the BD. For background, we add the high frequency information from both BD and manged WEB together.<br />
This anime is almost impossible to denoise using typical method. In some scenes, there are multiple layers of texture on top of each other with each layer having different motion. There are also a lot of scenes that fade to black or white.<br />
For this reason, we only use a very conservative <code>dctf.DCTFilter</code> and <code>DFTTest</code> to decheckerboard CR prior to delowpass, and we don't perform any denoise on BD.<br />
As usual, prior to denoise and delowpass, we perform Lehmer merge on the OP. But to avoid strengthening the checkerboard in WEB, and to limit the noise in BD, we only perform Lehmer merge using a ...]]></description>

<p>This is a high effort filtering and encoding for <em>Champignon no Majo</em> and should be the best version you can get right now.<br />

Additional improvements have been discovered in the encoder that helps with texture retention. Texture retention in episode 04 onwards should be even better than the compare above.  </p>
<p>For filtering, the main episode is descalable. We descale the main episode using <code>vsscale.Rescale</code>, and then we write a custom <code>akarin.Expr</code> to carefully dampen the sharpness of the descaled image. Thanks to many people in the JET server such moe teaching me the method, we fully recover the layer of 1080p texture on top of the image after descale.<br />
The OP and ED of this anime is not descalable. Instead we use a stronger <code>vsTAAmbk.TAAmbk</code> to deal with the OP, protected by a custom <code>akarin.Expr</code> taper. And we use <code>vsaa.based_aa</code> to perform aa on the ED.<br />
Also, as usual, before the aa, OP from multiple episodes are merged using <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code>.  </p>

<p>This is a medium effort filtering and encoding for <em>Tensei Akujo no Kuro Rekishi</em>.<br />

<p>The source is actually quite nice for this anime: a heavy layer of static grain or texture, next to no banding. Lineart is good as well, apart from some light halo.<br />
For filtering, we first lehmer merge all available CR sources for each episode together using <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code>. For OP, we lehmer merge all episodes together.<br />
After merging, we apply a protective denoise to remove the thin layer of dynamic noise on top using <code>vsdenoise.DFTTest</code> and <code>vsdenoise.mc_degrain</code>, protected by <code>dctf.DCTFilter</code> and a character mask via <code>vs-mlrt</code>'s <code>anime-segmentation</code> model.<br />
At last we perform a light dehalo using <code>vsdehalo.dehalo_alpha</code>, protected by the character mask, <code>vsdehalo.fine_dehalo.mask</code>, and a <code>vsrgtools.bilateral</code> based protection from sgt.  </p>
<p>For encoding, we use lastest version of 5fish/SVT-AV1-PSY. We use <code>--tune 0</code> and we use a mixture of <code>--preset 0</code> and <code>--preset 2</code> for this encode.<br />
For bitrate allocation, we use Progression Boost's Preset-Basic-Character-Boost for boosting. On the encoder side, we use <code>--balancing-q-bias 1 --variance-boost-strength 1 --variance-octile 6</code>, and especially <code>--noise-level-thr 16000 --noise-level-q-bias 0.06</code> to control filesize.<br />

<p>This is a high effort filtering and encoding for <em>Majutsushi Kunon wa Mieteiru</em>.<br />
The artstyle of this anime is easier to encode. Despite the filesize, the quality should have been good.<br />

<p>This anime has quite heavy halo, but other than that, it's quite nice.<br />
As a start, we merge the OPs of all episodes using <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code>.<br />
And then we use <code>vsdenoise.mc_degrain</code> and <code>vsdenoise.wnnm</code> to denoise, and then we use <code>vsdenoise.DFTTest</code> guided <code>dctf.DCTFilter</code> to reduce the checkerboard dithering in the source.  </p>

<p>This is a medium effort filtering and encoding for <em>Tensei Akujo no Kuro Rekishi</em>.<br />

<p>The source is actually quite nice for this anime: a heavy layer of static grain or texture, next to no banding. Lineart is good as well, apart from some light halo.<br />
For filtering, we first lehmer merge all available CR sources for each episode together using <code>vsdenoise.frequency_merge</code>. For OP, we lehmer merge all episodes together.<br />
After merging, we apply a protective denoise to remove the thin layer of dynamic noise on top using <code>vsdenoise.DFTTest</code> and <code>vsdenoise.mc_degrain</code>, protected by <code>dctf.DCTFilter</code> and a character mask via <code>vs-mlrt</code>'s <code>anime-segmentation</code> model.<br />
At last we perform a light dehalo using <code>vsdehalo.dehalo_alpha</code>, protected by the character mask, <code>vsdehalo.fine_dehalo.mask</code>, and a <code>vsrgtools.bilateral</code> based protection from sgt.  </p>
<p>For encoding, we use lastest version of 5fish/SVT-AV1-PSY. We use <code>--tune 0</code> and we use a mixture of <code>--preset 0</code> and <code>--preset 2</code> for this encode.<br />
For bitrate allocation, we use Progression Boost's Preset-Basic-Character-Boost for boosting. On the encoder side, we use <code>--balancing-q-bias 1 --variance-boost-strength 1 --variance-octile 6</code>, and especially <code>--noise-level-thr 16000 --noise-level-q-bias 0.06</code> to control filesize.<br />
